Grampians Region Allied Health Professional Development Strategy (2014-17)
The main aim of the Grampians Region Allied Health Professional Development Strategy (2014-17) is to improve the planning, coordination and promotion of allied health interprofessional development in the Grampians Region. This strategy also provides direction for allied health interprofessional development in the Grampians Region. It outlines priority areas and activities for allied health interprofessional development between 2014 to 2017.
The strategy has been developed in response to the priority area in the Grampians Region Allied Health Workforce Strategic Plan (2011-14) of improving professional development to allied health in the Grampians Region.

Existing interprofessional development for allied health in the Grampians Region
Grampians Allied Health Early Careers Program (previously Grampians Allied Health Graduate Program)
In 2017, an Allied Health Early Careers Program will be delivered in the eastern and western areas of the Grampians Region. The program is open to graduate allied health staff, as well as early career allied health professionals who would benefit from participation in the programs. The sessions have an interprofessional development focus and topics have been prioritised based on feedback from regional managers and previous program participants.
The eastern cluster Allied Health Early Careers Program will be delivered by Ballarat Health Services at a cost of $350 per participant. Please RSVP to Kylie McKenzie at kylie.mckenzie@bhs.org.au by Thursday 9th March 2017 to enrol eligible staff in the program. The western cluster Allied Health Early Careers Program will be delivered by Wimmera Health Care Group at a cost of $375 per organisation (for all their eligible allied health staff). Grampians Integrated Cancer Services (GICS)
GICS has facilitated training and promoted best practice education models to reduce unwanted variation in clinical practice and improve outcomes in cancer care. As part of the cancer education framework for the Grampians region; a cancer and resource hub has been developed and is available on the Grampians Regional Health Collaborative website. This website has been developed to assist staff to see what education / training is available in the region and online and how to access them. Grampians Region Allied Health Leaders Network
A series of evidence-based workshops were held in Ballarat in early 2015. Power point presentations of these workshops are available below. Please note also these workshops were complimented by the Evidence-based Practice - Part 1 and 2 - Basic Principles e-Learning Module which are available to allied health clinicians on the Victorian Regional Health Services e-Learning Network (ReHSeN).

Services for Australian Rural and Remote Allied Health (SARRAH)
SARRAH is the nationally recognised organisation representing rural and remote allied health professionals. SARRAH have developed a training package which is an online resource to support allied health professionals transitioning to rural and remote practice. The resource includes a transition toolkit and several e-learning modules. For further information please visit the link. SARRAH also deliver a biannual national allied health conference.
Victorian Regional Health Services eLearning Network (ReHSeN)
ReHSeN is a collaborative venture between health, community and aged care organisations located in the rural divisions of Victoria, the Victorian Department of Health and e3Learning. The ReHSeN portal provides online professional development resources to a full range of healthcare professionals (including allied health) who work in these organisations. For the West Division, Grampians Region there is a key contact in each public health and community health organisation who can support you with getting started and accessing existing courses.
Western Victoria Primary Health Nework
The role of the Western Victoria Primary Health Network (WVPHN) is to:
- increase the efficiency and effectiveness of health services for patients, particularly those at risk of poor health outcomes
- improve the coordination of care to ensure patients receive the right care in the right place at the right time
As part of this role WVPHN provides educational events for primary health care providers including general practitioners, practice nurses and allied health professionals. The organisation has 4 offices comprising: Geelong, Warnambool, Ballarat and Horsham. The Ballarat and Horsham offices provide educational events that cover the Grampians Region. Allied health research resource
The Clinicians Health Channel is an online information portal providing free access to current, accurate and reliable sources of information for all doctors, nurses and allied health professionals working in the Victorian public health sector. It's a clinical information repository of up-to-date evidence based material primarily for point of care decision making but also for research and ongoing professional development. If you are working from a Victorian public health service you can access this resource via the website.

Allied health scholarships and grants
Continuing Professional Development Grants and Post Graduate Scholarships for Allied Health
The Victorian Department of Health and Human Services is pleased to announce the Rural Allied Health Program is now open for applications.
The program provides continuing professional development grants (CPD) and post graduate scholarships to allied health professionals and allied health assistants who work in rural Victoria, providing opportunities and incentives for the rural allied health workforce to network, develop clinical and professional skills and share learning with their colleagues.
The Rural Workforce Agency of Victoria administer these programs for the department and further information including guidelines and applicantions can be located on the web page.
